In the 40 or so years I worked at Siemens after graduating as an electrical engineer (HTL), I was able to gain a wide range of international experience and broaden my areas of expertise through various challenges.

Career

Following the start of my career at Siemens AG as a commissioning engineer, after two years I became a manager and the leader of close to 20 commissioning engineers for high-voltage switchgear in Libya. These five years in total nurtured in me the desire to avoid mistakes right from the start.

This was followed by a year in construction management for a high-bay warehouse and office building in Karlsruhe, and then a three-year assignment as overall project manager for all high-voltage switchgear in Iran with a local team.

A three-year crisis project management for metro high-voltage feed-in stations in Taiwan was followed by project management for the power supply and third rail of an elevated railroad in Bangkok.

I was then able to set up a business unit with global end-to-end responsibility for traction power supply in the overall plant business of Siemens Verkehrstechnik, successfully managing it with my team for seven years.

A desired change was then the leadership of a Project Management Office (PMO) for a division with around 25,000 employees globally. This was followed by setting up and overseeing a PMO for Siemens Brazil for around two years.

In the following four years, I was able to further develop the PM@Siemens central project management system in a key role. After that, I wanted to get back more into the operational business.

This was followed by around four years of project management tasks with HVDC plants (high-voltage direct current transmission) in Brazil, Kenya and Ethiopia, as well as PMO tasks for the HVDC global business.

Then, I got into Smart Infrastructure Digital Grid for a good two years with Grid Control software projects as team lead for processes, tools and QM.

Currently, I am supporting Clients with agile transformation and improvements in the project business.

As a side job, I was able to achieve first successes as a freelance consultant to the client’s utmost satisfaction.

Furthermore, I am voluntarily active in the GPM Deutsche Gesellschaft für Projektmanagement e. V. (GPM German Association for Project Management) and other bodies, where I am particularly interested in sustainable development in project management from an economic, ecological and social point of view. Other areas of focus are change management and transformation projects.
